IrfanView IconMasih tentang fotografi. Salah satu, atau mungkin satu-satunya tools yang saya pake diluar tools bawaan Windows untuk keperluan pengolahan file-file foto hasil jepretan kamera digital adalah IrfanView. Kenapa saya pake software ini? Sesuai dengan madzab minimalis yang saya anut (:p), karena software ini tidak terlalu besar (hanya 1,2MB installer), tidak njelimet dalam hal instalasi (bisa langsung di-copy dan run), dan cukup memenuhi kebutuhan saya. Prinsip saya adalah : buat apa pake software yang “keterlaluan” (terlalu bagus), jika fitur yang dipake/disediakan ya itu-itu juga. Cuman menuh-menuhin space di hard-disc.

Still discussing about photography. One, or may be the only tools which I use (except the ones coming from Windows itself) to process my photograph files is IrfanView. Why I use it? Because I’m a (software) minimalist, and this software file size is not big (only 1,2MB installer), no need a complex installation process (just copy it somewhere, and it is ready to use), and the most important thing is : I found everything I need in this small tools. My principe is : why should we use a complex software, if the features (that we use) are about the same? Its only comsume more space in our hard disc.

Dengan menggunakan IrfanView, kita bisa melakukan proses (tapi tidak hanya ini saja lho ya) :
- cropping dan resize gambar, termasuk mengurangi ukuran file,
- rotate tanpa kehilangan kualitas,
- mengubah-ubah format penyimpanan file,
- auto adjust warna foto menjadi lebih menarik,
- mengubah-ubah setingan : brightness, contrast, gamma, dll dari foto,
- mengubah gambar dengan berbagai filter yang ada,
- dan lain-lain …

Using IrfanView, it is possible for us to do these actions (but not limited to these only) :
- cropping and resize, including saving the result with a smallest file size,
- rotate without decreasing the quality (lossless operation),
- converting many image format,
- auto adjust color to make photo nicer,
- adjusting : brightness, contrast, gamma, etc.
- adding filter to the photo image,
- etc-etc …

Bagi kita-kita yang suka motret, kadang, begitu nemu object, beberapa kaidah keindahan terabaikan, atau terpaksa diabaikan. Hal yang paling sering kita butuhkan menggunakan software image processing adalah cropping atau memotong gambar, supaya lebih enak dilihat. Begitu juga dengan menyimpan hasil jepretan kita ke ukuran yang lebih kecil, baik ukuran gambar maupun ukuran filenya (dengan jalan menggunakan angka kualitas yang lebih rendah), untuk misalnya : dikirim ke forum atau ke temen via email. Kalau sudah lebih sering pake software editing, mungkin penyetelan brightness, contrast, gamma, dan beberapa parameter lain menjadi menu wajib. Kalau saya sendiri, hampir selalu menggunakan fitur : auto adjust color di IrfanView, karena kemungkinan besar bisa lebih mengeluarkan warna-warna object yang kita potret.

For us who like photography, sometimes, when we found an interesting object, we just forget some photography aspect. Cropping is possibly the most usefull thing from the image processing software. And also reducing the image and/or file size using a lower quality for emailing purposes. After (using that software for) sometimes, probably, a feature like : brightness, contrast, or gamma setting are a must. I use auto adjust color feature from IrfanView because in the most time, it can help me to make the photo colors looks more interesting.

Bagi rekans yang sudah sangat terbiasa dengan Photoshop, menggunakan fitur yang hanya itu-itu (biasa) saja, tapi menemui kesulitan di masalah CPU komputer/laptop yang dipake, saya pribadi sangat merekomendasikan software IrfanView ini. Nggak bakal kecewa dech … :p)

For you who works with Photoshop, but use only some standard features, and found a difficulties with CPU speed/power (use a medium class laptop probably), I personally, highly recommend this IrfanView software. Just try it, and you will love it after that … :p)
